Having a standard, and setting a bar where only excellence counts is a little misguided. DMC3 isn't just any other good battle system. It makes a convincing argument for being the genres absolute best(personally Ninja Gaiden 2 and Bayonetta have my vote). Besides I don't think they are necessarily fluffing their reviews with "yep best battle system in the series". Plenty of people say it's still pretty good. It's fast, fluid, and has enough depth to warrant the opinion that it won't get stale half way through the game. There's nothing stupid about having a standard. In fact, having a hack & slash genre is a good enough reason for it to be compared to the best games in the genre out there. DMC3 is one of the best game in the combat system, but it's not impossible to top. I'm only interested in the Bloody Palace (which's done best in DMC4 and is where the combat shine the most), so yeah, couldn't care less about level design. Actually, my arguments were never strayed from the core combat, that's the only thing I'm discussing here.
That being said, I didn't expect a NT to top that lol, not in a million years the new DmC can be matched with DMC3 in term of combat department, but it should at least does some damage. In fact, Its combat doesn't even touch DMC4, let alone DMC3. The amount of journalists spouting BS about the amazing combat makes me sick.

Dat quality Ninja Theory writing.

Wow, it's annoyingly edgy in a different way from how Devil May Cry used to be annoyingly edgy.
Devil may cry always had that corny 90's action movie thing going on.
I think I'm going to really miss that, oh well. R.I.P.
why does the pc version come out 2 weeks late? :(
KarateeeChop
Better than 6 months I suppose like most Capcom games. Too bad it didn't release for Pc today though since I am still on winter break and classes start next week and I won't have as much time for games once that starts.
What the f*ck dude.
That might be the most comments on a review ever. Even Skyward Sword only got about 500. And this ran yesterday.
Poor Brad.

lol I think it is safe to say that they are mad. I am very glad this game seemed to turn out well.
Games a lot of fun.
While there are some hiccups as a lot of the reviewers have said the battle system is slick, fast and has it's toss up due to enemies types ( I really think NT hit what they were trying to do with heavenly sword on the head here). Upgrade system doesn't warrant as much as older games, it's a smidge easy right now (I do play a lot of H&S games so this may be it), some minor frame rate stuff (PS3, before I get crucified I prefer the controller), and No Lock on.
I don't disagree with the 8 for the gs review at all, brads welcome to his opinion at GB, but I disagree with it and that's fine.
The game looks really easy from the few playthroughs ive been checking out, it just seems so easy to juggle enemies so they can't do a thing, with the exception of the demonic and angelic types obviously because you are forced to use certain weapons to dispatch them.
This games got a huge focus on platforming this time though, it looks ok for the most part I guess.
I'll check out the pc version for myself but overall from what ive seen, I'm not too impressed. Although the way they change up the art assets on the fly in levels is fairly cool.
So yeah, F*ck you too everyone.

I hope you don't think every DMC fan to be like him. I've seen a lot of people, while upset with the game, being okay with it existing. Even admiting that the game on it's own isn't absolutely terrible.

capcom hates us.
I'm hearing in the Quick Look that this game has adaptive difficulty, ie it gets harder when you play better. I wonder if that's why the demo was too easy for some people.Cherokee_Jack
Smashing Y for SSS rank isn't what I would call hard...

Maybe in the full game that isn't viable for long, because getting those SSS ranks would drive up the difficulty going forward.

The more you run up the scoreboard, the more aggressive the enemies get. It's why they are initially punching bags, and the styIe guage is so important to the DMC series.

You can't be serious. Not only is that not impressive(given how intentionally cheesy those stories were), but it's giving way too much credit to an element of the game most game "critics" aren't even giving credit to as anything beyond just cheesy(albeit same level of DMC cheese). And that's not exactly a tough group of critics for story telling. The story's better than all past DMCs.(its BETTER than cheese stuff)

About which part?
Because i'm mostly serious.
If anyone is "enslaved and brainwashed by the government and or media." I'd argue that was a weak minded person in the first place. That doesn't make a good story, Infact i'd prefer corny ass, wise cracking dante throwing random quips out there that actually gave me a chuckle instead of tossing expletives while searching for his true lineage. Like DMC1, it was simple but worked. The conspiracy theories surrounding that obvious tripe are amusing, but hardly anyone is being brainwashed here.
